About Dream Cipher
Dream Cipher is a free dream symbol dictionary and AI-powered dream analyzer. Describe a dream in your own words, and it identifies the symbols in it and pulls together their traditional meanings — or browse the full dictionary directly, covering more than 560 symbols from teeth and snakes to falling and flying. The most common symbols are also available in Spanish and Portuguese. Browse them all A–Z.
How the Analyzer Works
When you describe a dream, the text is matched against the symbol dictionary to find which entries are actually relevant, then an AI model weaves those specific symbols into a single reading, rather than just listing definitions one after another. The dictionary entries themselves are grounded in traditional and psychological dream interpretation — the kind of meanings that have built up around common symbols like water, falling, or being chased across cultures and decades of dream analysis writing.
Why This Exists
Most dream dictionaries online are either a single static list with no way to search by what you actually dreamed, or hide real content behind a sign-up wall. Dream Cipher was built to do both — real symbol meanings you can browse freely, and a search that understands a genuine, messy description of a dream rather than requiring you to already know the right keyword.
What This Isn't
Dream interpretation is a traditional, symbolic practice, not a scientifically validated method of prediction or psychological diagnosis. Readings here are offered for reflection and entertainment, not as fact, and never as a substitute for professional mental health support if you need it.
Who's Behind It
Hi, I'm Greachain. I run Dream Cipher, along with Star Cipher, a free daily horoscope and tarot site, NameCipher, a free baby names site with Irish roots, and a few other free tools. New symbols are added as readers suggest ones that are missing.
Our Editorial Approach
Every symbol page follows the same principles, so you know what you're reading:
- Several traditions, side by side. Meanings draw on Freudian and Jungian dream analysis, modern psychology, and folklore from different cultures. Where those traditions disagree — and they often do — the entry says so rather than picking one "correct" answer.
- The dream in context. Most entries walk through the common versions of a dream (being chased by an animal versus a person, calm water versus a flood), because the details and the feeling of a dream change its usual reading far more than the symbol alone.
- Connected entries. Symbols link to related ones, so you can follow a dream that contains several.
- How the entries are made. The dictionary entries are researched and drafted with the help of AI writing tools, then edited and checked by me before they go live. The dream analyzer uses AI to combine the entries it matches into a single reading. I think you should know how the content you're reading was made.
- Corrections. If something is wrong, unclear or missing, email info@dreamcipher.net and I'll fix it. Entries are revised over time as readers point things out.
Nothing on Dream Cipher predicts the future or diagnoses anything. If your dreams are distressing or disturbing your sleep, it's worth talking to a doctor.
